Bariatric Evacuations Awareness

Course Overview

This program is designed to reduce injuries to emergency responders during patient handling and to improve care for morbidly obese patients. Training focuses on adapting existing equipment and techniques while maintaining established patient‑movement standards. The program is delivered across three course levels and is preapproved for Continuing Education credits through the British Columbia Emergency Medical Assistants Licensing Board.

Course Details

Awareness is the introduction to the concepts and rationale of a structured patient lifting and evacuation program. Awareness certification is the online course and will be included with all levels of certification. The online course is expected to take approximately 2 hours to complete. The course objectives are to make all participants aware of the patient medical requirements, complications with loading, evacuation, and risk potential to complete a size up and action plan.
